Congratulations to the NL East Champion New York Mets

Congratulations to the 2015 New York Mets, National League East Division Champions. Picked to finish no better than third, in a division that was supposed to belong to the Washington Nationals, with a opening day starter well over 40, a closer that was suspended almost immediately at the start of the season, an ace coming off Tommy John surgery, a shortstop who never played the position before, and an veteran star who was projected to miss more than half of the season, the Mets overcame that and more to bring home their first division title in nine years. They started the season on a tear, cooled off after the All Star Break, made key trade deadline acquisitions, stepped on the throats and crushed the spirits of the Nationals, and then took off on a tear to take the NL East crown. They have shrugged off the naysayers, maintained a laser focus on their goal, put aside egos in favor of the team, and bonded as brothers. Congratulations to the NL East Champions.

darthmaz314 Disney Snapshot of the Day - The Ominous "Face" of Walt Disney World's Haunted Mansion

Today's Disney Snapshot of the Day shines an eerie spotlight on the Haunted Mansion as it appears during nights of the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party. The creepy tint of the party lights bathe the mansion in an eerie glow that is unique to the Halloween season at the Magic Kingdom.

There are so many unique facets of the mansion, most of which go unnoticed by the casual guest. Case in point, the "Haunted Mansion Face," which is highlighted below. Notice how the illuminated symmetrical openings above the gated solarium windows give the below pictured portion of the mansion the appearance of a masked face. The mansion seems to ominously glare at you from a distance, almost daring you to come closer and experience all 999 happy haunts that dwell within. Welcome foolish mortals to the Haunted Mansion...

darthmaz314 Disney Snapshot of the Day - The Ceiling of the Haunted Mansion Stretching Room

On September 15th, the first Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party of 2015 was held at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom park. In honor of this official start of Disney World’s Halloween season, darthmaz314 brings you the first in a series of Disney Snapshots of the Day celebrating Halloween and all things eerie and creepy at Disney. Today’s snapshot features Disney’s ghoulish guilty pleasure, the timeless classic, the Haunted Mansion. Can you guess what this image is?

It is one of many things that causes guests to look up during their visits to the Magic Kingdom...in this case, straight up! It is none other than the ceiling of the infamous Mansion "stretching room” pre-show area.

Any “foolish mortals” that have visited the mansion know that their first stop after walking through the interactive queue is the so-called “stretching room.” There, “bodies” are asked by the morbidly dreary Mansion employee cast members to stand in the “dead center” of the room, away from the walls just before they are sealed in the octagonal shaped chamber. They are then greeted by the infamous ghost host, legendary voice actor Paul Frees, who points out not only the portraits that adorn the walls of chamber, but the very ominous and uniquely strange feature of the room that they currently occupy…it is “stretching” before their very eyes. Or is it?Another frightening feature of the room, as pointed out by your humble disembodied host, is that it has no windows and no doors. The challenge then presented to the “bodies” occupying the room is to “find a way out!”

Finally, the host and narrator generously suggests that there is always “his way out,” a line punctuated by a crash of lightning and a snuffing out of the room’s already dim lighting, forcing all to look up to the ceiling (pictured above,) which has disappeared completely and been replaced by a skeletal figure hanging from a noose high above their heads. A blood-curdling scream accompanied by a thunderous crash yanks the occupants of the stretching room back into a more familiar reality as the lights and the ceiling return to view and guests are then herded toward the attractions loading area.

The stretching room is only part of the now legendary Haunted Mansion, which has a presence at every Disney park worldwide. For the complete stretching room experience, check out the video in our next post.
