Retro Walt Disney World: Magic Kingdom Souvenir DVD 2003

The  @JoeDarthmaz  channel digs into the archives to bring you the Walt Disney World Magic Kingdom Souvenir video from 2003. This DVD was sold in the parks as sort of video snapshot of your visit to Magic Kingdom. It was as if Disney videographers had taken a vacation video for you, complete with professional video work, character appearances, and fancy editing. The only thing missing from the video was you.

With all the changes to the Walt Disney World parks in the decade that has passed, watching these videos today is truly a step back through time. For instance, the Magic Kingdom video tours through a park that still has Mickey's Toontown and Splash Mountain, but has no Seven Dwarfs mine Train, Be Our Guest Restaurant, Journey of the Little Mermaid, and more because New Fantasyland was not yet built.

@JoeDarthmaz  purchased all four of the park videos back in the day, so visit our channel in the future to see the Epcot, Hollywood Studios, and Animal Kingdom editions.

If you like this video, please consider giving it a “thumbs up.” This really helps others find the channel and our content. Feel free to leave a comment about your favorite memories or with suggestions for future videos.

Retro Walt Disney World - Baby Groot & Star-Lord Meet & Greet 2018 from ...

Take a trip into the Disney past with another Joe Darthmaz Retro Walt Disney World video. This time we relive the Baby Groot and Star-Lord meet and greet from Hollywood Studios. The meet and greet was a promotional vehicle coinciding with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and ran from May 2017 until the end of September 2018.

The tiny Baby Groot animatronic was adorable and not to be missed at that time. It was truly an example of what Walt Disney Imagineering does best. It may not have been the most breathtaking display of technology ever witnessed, but it was proof that not everything has to be that. It was a cute moment that allowed kids and adults to "step in the movies" and be immersed in a world that they enjoy...despite a Star-Lord that looked nothing like Chris Pratt. No fault or knock on the actor, who did a great job in the meet and greet, but casting face characters is an area where Disney often falls short.

Rise of the Resistance Mission Briefing with Rey, BB-8, and Poe Dameron

May the Fourth Be With you! To celebrate Star Wars Day, Joe Darthmaz brings you the Rise of the Resistance pre-show mission briefing featuring Rey, BB-8, Poe Dameron, Lieutenant Beck, and Nien Numb.

Featuring “hologram” technology and a BB-8 animatronic, this first of several pre-show components of the amazing Rise of the Resistance attraction launches you into the immersive world of sequel-era Star Wars.

With filmed appearances by the actual actors (Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac,) this pre-show kicks off the attraction with an authenticity and immersion that never lets up until you are exiting the last ride vehicle.

If you have not had the chance to experience it in person and you are even remotely entertained by Star Wars, Rise of the Resistance is a must-do for you. In my humble opinion, Rise is the best theme park attraction in all of Florida. We will bring you more of the Rise of the Resistance attraction and eventually the entire experience, so stay tuned.

Top 7 Must Sees at WDW with Stacey from Resort TV - 2008 - Retro Walt D...

Joe Darthmaz takes you back to spend some time with Stacey, the former Walt Disney World Resort TV host as she guides through the "Top 7 Must Sees" at Walt Disney World.

Stacey Aswad premiered on WDW Resort TV in 2005 in the "Must See" series, which was basically a thirty minute in-room commercial for Walt Disney World. She kept us company for over fifteen years, as the "Must Sees" became the much longer tenured and much more well-known "Must Dos" of Walt Disney World.

Sadly, in 2021, Disney removed "Must Do Disney" from Resort TV and we were all forced to say goodbye to it and to Stacey. But you can still see her here at Joe Darthmaz.

Being the lunatic that I am, in 2008, I set up a camera on the bed and recorded nearly the entire "Must See" loop. Small edits were made to remove me passing in front of the TV. Also, please forgive the talking that can be heard in the background in one small section. I made an attempt to edit it the sound, but it's fourteen-year-old non-HD video.

So let's take a walk down memory lane on another Retro Walt Disney World video here on Joe Darthmaz as we count down (most of) the "Top 7 Must Sees at Walt Disney World."

Retro Disney World: Kenny Baker (R2-D2) Interview from Star Wars Weekends 2001 at Disney Hol...

Before there was a Galaxy's Edge (or even a Star Wars Launch Bay,) there was Star Wars Weekends at Disney's Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World and several other Disney Parks. Star Wars Weekends was a celebration of the legendary franchise which took place on five consecutive weekends in the late Spring/Summer and featured a celebrity motorcade, Star Wars character meet and greets, merchandise offerings, themed dining experiences, and an evening-ending fireworks show. The motorcade and panel interviews would feature celebrities from the Star Wars universe, most of whom were not the top tier talent, but beloved by fans of the franchise nonetheless.

Joe Darthmaz was able to attend the event in the olden timey days of 2001 and had his trusty camera with him to capture some of the festivities for posterity. So today we bring you the panel interview with Kenny Baker, the actor who gave life to lovable astromech droid R2-D2 in the original and prequel trilogies.

The interview actually also featured Doug Chiang, current Vice President and Executive Director at Lucasfilm, who at the time was working as a design director on the prequel trilogy. Doug’s portion of the interview will be released as a separate video.

The video is over two decades old at this point and filmed in the days of cameras with minimal stabilization so bear with some of the shake and less than HD quality.

If you like this video, please consider giving it a “thumbs up.” This really helps others find the channel and our content. Feel free to leave a comment about your favorite memories or with suggestions for future videos.

Sam Eagle's Safety Instructions from Muppet Vision 3D at Disney's Hollyw...

Who doesn't love Muppet Vision 3D from Disney's Hollywood Studios? This interactive experience merges 3D film, animatronics, 4D theater effects, live actors, and Disney Magic and wraps it all into a blanket of Muppet fun and humor, making it impossible to not leave the theater smiling from ear to ear.

But before you even enter the theater itself, you experience the pre-show, which some claim is one of Disney's best ever. It is decades old now and not necessarily a technological wonder, which is more a hallmark of recent pre-shows, but it is filled with the warmth, wit, and humor that is the calling card of the Muppet franchise.

There are so many segments of the pre-show that have become iconic and quotable to Disney Parks fans over the years. One such segment is brought to you hear by Joe Darthmaz. Sam Eagle's safety instructions features the always stoic straight man, Sam Eagle as well as other Muppet friends, including Rizzo the Rat impersonating another well know rodent...hmmm. This portion of the pre-show is one of my favorites and I hope it will bring a smile to your face, as it always does to mine.

Take a Ride on the Disney Skyliner in 4K with Joe Darthmaz

Take a ride with Joe Darthmaz on the Disney Skyliner in stunning 4K!

Opened at the end of September 2019, the Disney Skyliner is an ariel gondola (cable car) lift system that connects Disney's Hollwood Studios, Epcot, and Disney's Riveria, Caribbean Beach, Art of Animation, and Pop Century resorts.

Approximately 300 gondola cabins, some wrapped in Disney themed character designs, glide above Disney property roads, waterways, wooded tracts, and resort areas, offering some of the most picturesque views in all of the vacation kingdom.

The Skyliner joins the the vast Walt Disney World transportation fleet, which transports millions of vactioners across Disney property each year for no cost...well, for now anyway.

Although a transportation system, the Skyliner really is much more as it can truly be considered an attraction in and of itself. If you have an opportunity to take a ride on the Skyliner, be sure not to pass it up.

For now, take a ride from Hollywood Studios to Disney's Riveria Resort on the Joe Darthmaz YouTube channel.

Kylo Ren Interacts with Guests at Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in Hollywood S...

Star Wars Galaxy's Edge was originally supposed to be a very interactive experience in which guests "lived their own Star Wars adventure." There was supposed to be interaction with characters, as well as a "reputation system" where you had an opportunity to have some of your interactions in the land follow you during your visit.

For example, your performance on Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run was intended to be part of the reputation you built in as much as if you really banged up the old hunk of junk, you might catch some shade from cast members or characters in the land afterword.

However, many of the interactions and the reputation system were scrapped due to cost-cutting and have now all been neatly placed behind a $5,000 - $6,000 paywall at the Star Wars Galactic Starcruiser. One of the few interactive elements, although it is mostly one-sided is the character experience at Kylo Ren's ship.

Kylo Ren and his duo of Stormtroopers appear periodically in front of his docked starship to harass and recruit gathered guests at Galaxy's Edge. A Kylo Ren character interacts with guests via a series of pre-recorded comments and hand gestures. It is definitely a unique photo and video opportunity and should not be missed during your time at Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios.

Here, Joe Darthmaz brings you a sampling of the Supreme Leader's interaction with the milling masses at Galaxy's Edge in our latest video release.

Dianoga (Death Star Trash Compactor Creature) Interactive Water Fountain at Galaxy's Edge at Hollywood Studios

One of the best things about Walt Disney World is the attention to detail, the little extra touches that make something special and memorable. While it seems that in recent years, some of that attention to detail has been stripped away in favor of cost cutting, some of it still exists in the Disney Parks.

One such example is the Dianoga interactive water fountain from Star Wars Galaxy's Edge in Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World. "What in the name of the Force is a dianoga?" you ask. The dianoga was that one-eyed serpentine creature that ensnared Luke Skywalker in the Death Star trash compactor in Star Wars and dragged him under the water nearly drowning him. Just as we and his newfound companions Han, Leia, and Chewie had all given up hope on the young moisture farm boy, he emerges from the floating trash, released from the dianoga's clutches, as it fled, hoping to escape the crushing walls of the compactor chamber.

Well, Disney World's second one-eyed friend (think short green monster for the first,) or another of his species, has taken up permanent residence at Black Spire Outpost in a water tank used to refresh the weary travelers visiting the planet Battuu. Place your refillable mug under the touchless water station and momentarily fresh, cool water will fill your mug. However, you may not want to drink it after you realize, who resides in the adjacent tank from which you mug is being filled.

It is of course, all a gag, but it is an example of the small attention to detail touches that are the hallmark of Disney Parks and have made them a step above themed entertainment anywhere in the world for over half a century.

So, join Joe Darthmaz in a short visit with the Dianoga and Disney, please give us more of these types of nuances everywhere and anywhere possible.

Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway Full Ride-Through - Disney's Hollywood...

Join JoeDarthmaz on a full ride-through of the Mickey & Minnie's Runaway Railway attraction at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Walt Disney World.

On August 13, 2017, Disney permanently closed "The Great Movie Ride," the signature attraction of the original Disney MGM Studios theme park to replace it with Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway, but maintained the facade of the building which is a replica of the famous Chinese Theatre located on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, California.

Many hardcore Disney fans were upset with the closure of the Great Movie Ride, which was a true masterpiece of Disney Imagineering and contained a number of audio animatronic figures never again matched in any Disney Park across the globe.

While a very different type of attraction than the Great Movie Ride, Mickey and Minnie's Runaway Railway is unique and modern and an attraction that can be enjoyed by guests of all ages. It is also one of very few attractions throughout the history of Disney Parks to be dedicated to company's mascot, the Mouse himself. So, if you can't get Walt Disney World, or haven't been in a while, check it out here on JoeDarthmaz.

Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run Full Ride-Through & Queue from Galaxy's Edge at Disney's Hollywood Studios

Joe Darthmaz brings you a full ride-through of the Millennium Falcon Smuggler's Run attraction at Galaxy's Edge from Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando. Portions of the exterior and interior queue are featured as well.

Much has been said and written about the quality of this attraction since it debuted at Galaxy's Edge in Disney Parks on both coasts. Some of the more negative comments were along the lines of...

"It is just a simulator ride..."
"It's a modern Star Tours..."
"We waited for years, for this?!'

A case can be made for all of the above comments. However, as a lifelong Star Wars fan, who struggles to not get dragged down by today's constant search for what is wrong with everything and everyone, every minute of every day, I really enjoyed it immensely. And that was after waiting almost ninety minutes.

Walking into that section of Galaxy's Edge and being faced with (what I can only imagine is) a life-sized Millennium Falcon was almost enough for me. Getting to experience a recreation of the interior of the ship, only made me happier. The fact that the ride was enjoyable sealed the deal.

Would I have preferred that the entire land be set in the time of the original trilogy? Yes. However, the addition of Hondo, one the best characters to come out of the Clone Wars animated series, was a phenomenal move. Hondo is your guide and "employer" on your Smuggler's Run journey. Having just the right blend of charm, humor, and sliminess, Honda fills the role very nicely.

So, sit back, relax, and enjoy a journey aboard the most loveable piece of junk in the galaxy, courtesy of Joe Darthmaz. Afterward, you can decide if you agree with some of the attraction's detractors or those like me, who are thrilled to have an attraction like this to enjoy.

Pixar Character Cavalcade from Disney's Hollywood Studios from Joe Darthmaz on YouTube

Since Walt Disney World re-opened in 2020 from the pandemic closure, parades have sadly been absent from the parks. They were replaced with scaled down mini-parades that Disney named "character cavalcades." These cavalcades were initially unscheduled so as to avoid the gathering of large crowds in an attempt to promote social distancing. While they are not a legitimate replacement for a proper Disney parade, the cavalcades are a nice impromptu piece of character entertainment that can sneak up on you during your park day.

Today, Joe Darthmaz bringing you the second of the cavalcade videos, filmed during our recent trip to Walt Disney World. This video features the Pixar Character Cavalcade from Disney's Hollywood Studios, starring Mr. & Mrs. Incredible, Edna Mode, Sully, Woody, the drumming Green Army Men, and Buzz Lightyear.

darthmaz314 Disney Snapshot of the Day - Giant Etch A Sketch from Toy Story Mania Queue

darthmaz314 is not dead, just in desperate need of time to create content for the site. After another long hiatus, we're back with a new Disney Snapshot of the Day. Today's snapshot highlights an overgrown favorite of darthmaz314's generation, the Etch A Sketch, a classic toy featured in the Toy Story films and seen below as part of the Toy Story Mania! queue. The Etch A Sketch toy debuted in 1960 and is still sold today, almost 60 years later! Affectionately referred to as "Etch" by Woody in the Toy Story films, the classic toy was featured in a playful duel with the cowboy in the first film and used to identify the evil toy store owner Al in the second film. Do you have an Etch A Sketch?

darthmaz314 Comedy Disney Snapshot of the Day

Today we launch another twist on the darthmaz314 Snapshot of the Day today, the Comedy Snapshot of the Day. This first melds the worlds of Star Wars and the Godfather. Those familiar with Francis Ford Coppola's classic trilogy will most certainly get it. If you are not familiar with either Star Wars and/or the Godfather darthmaz314 recommends the following:

1. Stop what you are doing right now.
2. Obtain these movies somehow (buy, rent, download, steal if your conscience permits).
3. Start watching these movies.
4. Don't stop watching until you are finished.
5. Repeat.

Today we are also posting TWO Snapshots of the Day. Hard to believe, but true. Considering the gaps that often occur between posts, we figured why hold one back if it was ready? We hope you agree.

darthmaz314 Disney Snapshot of the Day: The Force Awakens Movie Billboard at Disney Hollywood Studios

We are now less that one month away from the release of arguably, the most anticipated film in movie history...Star Wars: The Force Awakens. Today, the darthmaz314 Disney Snapshot of the Day celebrates the rapidly approaching release of the film by bringing you a photo of the Force Awakens movie billboard, as seen in Disney Hollywood Studios, on the side of the Great Movie Ride Show building on Mickey Avenue between One Man's Dream and the entrance to Pixar Place. This space, as well as an adjacent wall, normally feature promotional movie poster billboards for the upcoming/current Disney and Pixar films. darthmaz314 has made a tradition of photographing these billboards during visits to Hollywood Studios to capture that moment in time when the films are fresh, unproven, and in many cases, not yet released.

darthmaz314.com

In this instance, one of the billboards showcases the upcoming release of Disney's newest acquired property, Lucasfilm. It is no exaggeration to say that the creative, financial, and pop culture futures of Disney are all currently riding on the box office success and fan acceptance of the latest chapter of the Star Wars saga. The trail of breadcrumbs that JJ Abrams and Lucasfilm have sprinkled out for fans to follow over the last two years appears to lead to an epic blockbuster, destined to revive the franchise and win back legions of the Star Wars faithful disenchanted by the prequel trilogy. Only time will tell. The anticipation has reached a fever pitch. The marketing and promotion waves are cresting and appear to be poised to crash down hard, swallowing up everything in their path as the film's premier approaches. What was once a three year wait, anchored by the announcement that after purchasing Lucasfilm, Disney would revive the film franchise, has now entered its final month. Strap yourselves in. It ought to be one hell of a ride.

As reported in a July 31st post on darthmaz314, The Magic of Disney Animation attraction in Disney’s Hollywood Studios closed forever on July 12th, 2015. During a recent trip to Walt Disney World, a Hollywood Studios cast member confirmed to darthmaz314 that the building which housed this attraction is being renovated to house the Star Wars Launch Bay, a new experience announced at the D23 Expo in August. The Star Wars Launch Bay will be an interactive experience that takes guests inside the upcoming Force Awakens film, as well as the other six films of the Star Wars canon. Special exhibits, sneak peeks behind the scenes, character meet and greets, and unique food and merchandise offerings will all be featured in the Star Wars Launch Bay experience.

The exterior of the former Magic of Disney Animation building has been painted a familiar “Imperial” grey in preparation for its transformation into the new Star Wars Launch Bay. Disney has announced that this attraction will open in December of 2015, just in time for the December 18th opening of the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is now just over two months away.
